Shell seeking agreements to supply proposed ethane cracker

By Bob Downing Published: August 28, 2013

Royal Dutch Shell has not yet determined if it will build an ethane cracker plant in Beaver County in western Pennsylvania.

But the energy giant has begun soliciting agreements with drilling companies to provide ethane for processing.

The company will accept offers from drilling companies through Oct. 4.

It reportedly has agreed to terms with at least four drilling companies in the Utica and Marcellus shales: CONSOL, Noble Energy, Seneca Resources and Hilcorp Energy.

Shell began looking at the site on the Ohio River near Monaca in early 2012. That site won out over proposed sites in Ohio and West Virginia.

There are also numerous pipeline projects proposed and under construction to carry ethane to the Gulf Coast for processing.
