Shell Chemical has signed 10 third-party contracts and filed for an air permit but has not yet committed to building a new cracker plant on the Ohio River northwest of Pittsburgh in Beaver County.
That news came from a chemical conference in Colorado, the West Virginia-based State Journal reported late Thursday.
The plant would be built in Monaca, Pa.
It is one of two proposed cracker plants to turn ethane into polyethylene for plastics in the Ohio-Pennsylvania-West Viorginia area.
