Carroll County remains No. 1 in Ohio for Utica shale permits.
But six Ohio counties have now topped 100 permits each, according to Shawn Bennnett of Energy in Depth-Ohio, a pro-drilling trade group.
Carroll County has 408 permits, Harrsion County has 234, Noble County has 108, Belmont County has 105, Guernsey County has 104 and Columbiana County has 103.
In addition, Monroe County with some of Ohio's best-producing wells has 88 permits.
