The Youngstown Vindicator on Friday reports that some folks in Columbiana County are pushing for new state law imposing minimum royalties for landowners involved in natural gas storage fields.
The suggestion comes from residents within the Brinker Storage Field owned by Columbia Gas.
The landowners there get no signing bonuses and royalties of only $200 a year if a gas storage tank is buried in their land and zero if no tank is installed.
That is far less than royalties paid to neighbors by companies like Chesapeake Energy Corp.
