State today may announce a major Ohio investment by Texas firm Baker Hughes

By Jim Mackinnon Published: February 27, 2012

The Massillon Independent newspaper says there may be an announcement today that Texas-based Baker Hughes Oilfield Operations will make a major investment in Ohio that includes a $40 million office building in Massillon.

The Massillon operation, if it happens, will create about 900 jobs over three years.

Here's the top of the Independent story:

MASSILLON —Baker Hughes Oilfield Operations, a Houston-based gas and oil service provider could invest $564 million in the state, including a new, $40 million facility in Massillon that would be home to 900 new full-time jobs within three years.

Baker Hughes, ranked 170th on the Fortune 500 in 2011, is in negotiations with state, county and city officials to locate a major facility on a 108.5-acre parcel just south of U.S. Route 30 in the Northeast Ohio Commerce Park in Massillon. The company has looked at sites in other states.

A formal announcement unveiling additional details of the project is expected to come Monday from Gov. John Kasich’s office following a meeting of the Ohio Tax Credit Authority, which will consider granting the company a Job Creation Tax Credit, according to Katie Sabatino, spokeswoman with the Ohio Department of Development.
