Drillers are keeping a close eye on how much oil might be recovered from a well in Ohio's Tuscarawas County.
That well has produced "a good pressure test" but additional tests are still needed, said John Walker, executive chairman of EV Energy Partners, in a teleconference on Tuesday from New York.
It appears that significant oil can be recovered from Ohio's Utica shale if the right technology can be found, he said.
He also noted that well costs in the Utica have dropped to $6.2 million to $6.5 million per well, half what companies were spending on drilling when the play began.
Cheaspeake Energy Corp,. a partner with EV Energy Partners and Total, plans to drill 4,600 wells in the coming years in the wet-gas window in eastern Ohio, Walker said.
