Two Pennsylvania-based health-care systems intend to study the health threat from developing the Marcellus shale.
The study will be done by Guthrie Health in Sayre, Pa., and the Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pa.
The two systems said they will develop a health surveillance network that will make patient data available for research purposes.
Issues to be studies include asthma, cardiovascular disease and cancer, officials said.
Preliminary results could be issued within the next year, while other aspects of the research may take up to 15 years, officials said.
