Two more Ohio communities are supporting a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing or fracking in Ohio.
According to the Chagrin Valley Times, the village of Burton in Geauga County voted Dec. 12 to support a moratium until the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency completes a detailed study of the drilling process. A final report is not expected until 2014.
The resolution asks the governor and the state of Ohio to block drilling permits until the analysis is done.
The village is especially concerned about drinking water and local roads.
At present, one horizontal well is being drilled in Geauga County's Parkman Township.
In Athens County, the Amesville Village Council passed a similar resolution.
