An independent expert has recommended that Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. should be allowed to continue hydraulic fracturing or fracking in the United Kingdom, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.
Future gas operations elsewhere in the U.K. should be assessed prior to starting, said the report by the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Cuadrilla suspended fracking operations last year after two small earthquakes occurred in northwest England where it was drilling.
The report recommends that fracking should be halted temporarily if there is a tremor greater than a magnitude 0.5. Cuadrilla says that is acceptable.
The two quakes last spring were magntitudes 2.3 and 1.5.
