Concerned Citizens Ohio is holding a water monitoring program plus a forum to discuss shale drilling and pipelines on Sunday. Sept. 1.
The program will be held at 3:15 p.m. in Streetsboro in Portage County.
Meet at the Eagles Club Hall, 9052 State Route 14, Unit D.
To collect water samples for testing, run the cold water for 10 minutes. Collect the sample before treatment by a water heater or filter, in a clean glass jar. Bring at least two cups. Owners' names should be on the jars.
If water cannot be run for 10 minutes, wash several loads of laundry in cold water to remove standing water in the pipes.
The water testing is not EPA-approved but it does provide a homeowener with a base line sample of water quality.
Free but donations are accepted..
The forum will take place during the water testing.
Concerned Citizens Ohio wants to hear of concerns that residents of Summit and Portage counties have about natural gas pipelines, said spokeswoman Mary Greer.
Her group intends to take those concerns to elected officials.
Greer's group is also organizing a Sept. 19 meeting on pipelines and homeowner rights by attorney Sean Kelly.
It will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the same location.
The forum is called "Pipelines: Protections and Problems."
For Sept. 19 reservations and more information, contact Greer at 330-472-8086.
