From Columbus Business First:
Youngstown Mayor Charles Sammarone wants city council to give administrators permission to sell mineral rights on city-owned land to drillers who want to extract oil and natural gas from underground shale formations, the Youngstown Vindicator reports.
Sammarone said the city would use the windfall from the sale to pay for demolition of 1,070 residences that need to come down and neighborhood improvement projects.
That resolution will go before council next week.
Youngstown's council also is weighing a resolution that would urge "stringent regulation" from state regulators charged with overseeing drilling in Ohio, the newspaper said.
