APS confirms 5.9 mill levy request

By John Published: December 6, 2011

The noon school board meeting today was over in about a minute with a unanimous vote to put a 5.9 mill levy on the March ballot.

You have to vote twice, once to set the millage (which the board did on Monday) and again after the county auditor runs the numbers and determines how much money the levy will raise.

The total property tax valuation for the Akron school district is about $2.4 billion. One mill would brings in $2.44 million for the district, so a 5.9 mill levy will bring in about $14.4 million a year.
