APS State of the Schools Thursday/Family Reading Festival Saturday

Just a reminder of some upcoming events:

Akron superintendent David James delivers his third annual State of the Schools luncheon address to the Akron Press Club on Feb. 3. Details from the press release:

Speaker: David James, Akron Public Schools superintendent.
Time: Buffet luncheon begins at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 3. Program follows.           
Place: Martin University Center, 105 Fir Hill, University of Akron campus.
Cost: $15 for Press Club members, $20 for non-members.

This City Reads kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Main branch library in downtown Akron with the Family Reading Festival from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Clifford the Big Red Dog and Curious George from PBS will be there along with singer/story-teller Jim Gill. Each attending child receives a free book. Then, on Wed., Feb. 9, residents will be asked to devote 30 minutes to reading on the 8th Annual Day of Reading. Last year, nearly 81,000 supported the effort. This year's goal is 100,000.
