Corrigan M. Irwin has earned the Eagle Scout Award, the highest award in the Boy Scouts. He is a member of Troop 935, which meets at the McDonaldsville St. Paul United Methodist Church. He is the son of Scoutmaster Kevin Irwin and his wife, Stephanie.
Streetsboro Police Sgt. Andy Suvada was named Crisis Intervention Team International Officer of the Year. The 2011 award, sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, recognizes those who handle incidents involving people with mental illness. In 2008, he was named Portage County Crisis Intervention Team Officer of the Year by the Portage County Police Chiefs' Association and Ohio CIT Officer of the Year by NAMI Ohio.
North Canton resident Tim McCarty, interim chairman of the journalism and digital media department at Ashland University, was one of 20 faculty members nationwide selected to attend the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation's Faculty Seminar in Los Angeles in November. The foundation will cover the cost of participants' airfare, lodging and transportation.
Five Malone University alumni received 2011 Outstanding Alumni Awards at fall homecoming ceremonies. The Rev. Cedric S. Rodney, a professor of religion and ethics at Winston-Salem State University, was named Alumnus of the Year; Greg Nettle, senior pastor of RiverTree Christian Church in Massillon, Graduate School Alumnus of the Year; Deron Boring of Rootstown, an attorney, Young Alumnus of the Year; Yvonne Brake, director of development for Haven of Rest Ministries, Malone Management Program Leadership Excellence Award; and Earl H. Bailey, founder of Word for the World International radio ministry, the inaugural Earl H. Bailey Lifetime Achievement Award.
Shaun Patrick Miller, an August graduate of Kent State's recreation, park and tourism management program, was selected for the 2011 Young Professional Network Outstanding Undergraduate Award from the National Recreation and Park Association. He has accepted a job conducting outreach programs and leading snowshoe-guided hikes at the National Park Service's visitor center in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. Miller formerly lived in Cuyahoga Falls.
Seth P. Warren has graduated from the Army National Guard's basic training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Kim Warren of Hartville and is a student at Field High School in Brimfield Township.? Army National Guard Pvt. Hannah C. White, daughter of Dale and Amy White of Akron, graduated from basic training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. She is a 2011 graduate of Kenmore High School in Akron.
