Stark State College student Renee Weaver received a $500 scholarship from the School Nutrition Association of Ohio, a $250 scholarship from the Dietary Management Association Foundation and a $390 credit toward fees for national certification testing. She is a dietary management major who works as a cook at Faircrest Middle School in the Canton Local School District.

Michael Miller, website administrator for university relations at Malone University, created maps for the book Khirbat Iskandar Final Report, which received a Biblical Archaeology Society Publication Award in the category Best Scholarly Book on Archaeology.

North Lawrence resident Joe Lautzenheiser, 16, won the grand champion prize at the 2011 Ohio State Fiddling Contest at Nelsonville's 62nd Parade of the Hills Festival. He will compete in the national fiddling contest in June in Weiser, Idaho. He is the son of Bruce and Barbara Lautzenheiser.

Our Lady of the Elms students Alexis Armstrong of Munroe Falls and Isabella Troutman of Cuyahoga Falls received awards from the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness for designing posters about severe weather safety and preparedness. Alexis, the fourth-grade state winner, received a $50 savings bond. Isabella was a fifth-grade regional winner.

Military

Air Force Reserve Airman Deyron M. Adams, son of Sheila Adams of Garfield Heights and Dejuan Adams of Akron, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is a 2010 graduate of Garfield Heights High School.
