GREEN: All scheduling of classes for Green High School freshmen through seniors will be done online for the next school year.
Principal Cindy Brown said parent meetings are planned to be held over the next two months to explain the changes. The meetings will be in the high school commons.
Brown said the goal is to get 70 percent of students scheduled online. The effort will begin Jan. 30. It is estimated that about 30 percent of the registrations may still have to be done manually by April 20.
A session for parents of current freshmen will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 26. Parents of sophomores will meet the same night at 6:30 p.m., followed by parents of juniors at 7 p.m.
Parents of eighth-graders are to meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27.
Brown said current freshmen and sophomores completed their schedules online for this school year as part of a pilot program.
Brown said the change offers the opportunity to simplify the process and prepare students for the online scheduling that they will face once they go to college.
Another factor, Brown said, is to make better use of the guidance staff who formerly had to enter all the scheduling.
She noted the high school still only has three guidance counselors to serve about 1,400 students compared with just 900 when the high school opened 16 years ago.
