Ohio Gov. John Kasich's State of the State address today is getting headlines for some of the jeering and boos he heard.
But when he talked about is concern over excessive felony sentences that ruin a person's employment chances for life, he got a standing ovation and plenty of applause. WKSU-89.7 has video of the speech. At minute 28, Kasich talks about the Kelley Williams-Bolar case:
''We went to bat for this lady in Akron -- charging her with a felony because she's trying to protect her kids and not have kids wandering the streets and have kids that are protected. I've sent it to the parole board.''
''Members of the legislature, we don't want to ruin people's lives if there is a chance to give them a second chance if it is appropriate. And we have to work through it together. We don't want to wreck someone forever when it makes no sense.''
