Officials with Akron Public Schools unveiled the first set of renderings and floor plans for a new King elementary school Monday. We published an artist's rendering of what the school would like from Memorial Parkway in today's print edition, but I can't find it online. I'll try to dig it up and post it here.
Here are some details about the construction project:
Total estimated cost of the new King school: $12.8 million.
Akron's local share: $6.3 million.
State share: $6.5 million.
Timeline: King students will attend the ''swing space'' building at 400 W. Market St. beginning this August. Construction of the new building will begin in early 2012, following demolition of the current school. The new school is tentatively scheduled for completion in mid- to late 2013.
Community meeting: The first set of drawings will be presented at a public meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at King Elementary, 805 Memorial Parkway.
