State names promising schools for overcoming poverty

The Ohio Department of Education has named 13 area schools from 8 districts "Schools of Promise."  They were among 161 schools  statewide with high levels of poverty recognized for their efforts based on last year's state report card.

These schools have excelled through rigorous coursework and a strong system of learning supports to help students overcome high levels of poverty.

Summit County
Akron Public Schools:
     Akron Early College
     Firestone High School
     Windemere Elementary School

Springfield Local Schools:
     Roosevelt Elementary School
     Young Elementary School

Stark County
     Fairless Local Schools: Fairless Middle School
     Louisville City Schools: Fairhope Elementary School
     Minerva Local Schools: Minerva Middle School

Wayne County

Northwestern Local Schools:
     Northwestern High School
     Northwestern Middle School

Southeast Local Schools:
     Fredericksburg Elementary School
     Holmesville Elementary School

Wooster City Schools: Melrose Elementary School
