Triway passes earned income tax

By John Published: March 6, 2012

We're still waiting for boards of election to post results, but we have our first winner of the night, Triway in Wayne County. Voters soundly approved a .75 earned income tax with

2204 2401 votes for and 1548 1731 against. These kinds of taxes are appealing in rural areas because they spare farmers and other big land owners as well as seniors. Property taxes don't go up, but working people shoulder the burden. Owners of a $100,000 making $50,000 a year will see a 57 percent in increase in their support for the schools.
