My colleague Laura Ofobike, chief editorial writer, had an interesting piece last week in the Akron Beacon Journal that has sparked a conversation on our new Facebook fan page (see right column, become a fan and join the conversation. (While you're there, you can cheer on Zak Boatwright at Garfield High School who is trying to lose weight in the Garfield Loser Club).
The report Ofobike cites is available here.
''For every 100 girls enrolled in kindergarten, there are 116 boys.
''For every 100 girls enrolled in high school, there are 100 boys.
''For every 100 women enrolled in college, there are just 77 men.''
That short profile of an educational trend was cited in a report published last month by the College Board, the organization best known for standardized tests and educational programs such as the SAT, the PSAT and the Advanced Placement program.
What happened to the men?
