    CNN to visit National Inventors Hall of Fame School

    Akron's newest middle school continues to attract national attention. CNN is visiting the new building on South Broadway on Oct. 7. This summer, Newsweek included the school in a story about fostering creativity. Details on the CNN visit after the jump

       CNN to Visit National Inventors Hall of Fame® School … Center for STEM Learning

      Segment will Focus on How Creativity is Taught to Students
    AKRON (October 4, 2010) – The National Inventors Hall of Fame School … Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Learning will host CNN Education Contributor Steve Perry on Thursday, October 7 to talk with Instructional Leader Traci J. Buckner about how the school uses creativity to solve problems and to feature an ongoing problem based learning (PBL) project.

         The segment will air at a later date on ''Perry's Principles,'' a series that runs on Anderson Cooper 360?. Steve Perry is interested in featuring seventh grade learners involved in an invasive species project with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The project focuses on invasive plant species and is tied into Ohio content standards, as are all problem based learning projects at the NIHF-STEM school.

         Instructional Leader Traci Buckner said she is thrilled to host Steve Perry and CNN to talk about how the National Inventors Hall of Fame School … Center for STEM Learning teaches creativity. ''This presents an incredible opportunity to highlight the various strategies and techniques we employ here that help us teach our learners creativity,'' Buckner said.

         Akron Public Schools Superintendent David James agrees. ''For CNN to recognize one of our schools shows that we are leading the way in teaching creative and inventive thinking,'' Superintendent James said.
