Green school leaders to discuss levy attempt

GREEN: The Green Board of Education and administration will hold an open discussion at Thursday night's board meeting to hear thoughts, suggestions and concerns regarding another try at an operating levy in 2011.

Superintendent Michael Nutter and Treasurer Eydie Snowberger made the announcement in submitting the agenda for the upcoming board meeting, which is to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the city's Central Administration Building, 1755 Town Park Blvd.

    A meet-and-greet session will begin at 6 p.m.

On Nov. 2, voters turned down a five-year, 6.7-mill operating levy that would have provided $4.8 million annually and would have been the first new operating money for the district in 11 years. The result will be a $3.5-million shortfall for fiscal year 2011, which ends June 30.

In the past 18 months, the administration has cut $4.3 million from the current budget and now must cut up to 75 positions, including 60 to 65 teachers.
