Bowling for scholarships
Bowl a strike for college scholarships tomorrow (Dec. 22) at Midway Lanes, which is holding a fundraiser for Akron Council PTA.
Here's the deal: pay $8 for three games (shoes included) between 9 a.m and 11 p.m. and Midway will give $4 to the PTA's scholarship fund for APS seniors. Same goes for Dec. 29, same hours.

Ohio Pre-K in trouble
Someone from the Pew Center on the States read my story today on arts funding for preschoolers and suggested I take a look at Pew's new 50-state survey on preschool funding. Ohio's investment in early education has been up and down and it appears to be in need of an infusion. But the state is about to tackle an $8 billion deficit, so it's not the best time to be scrounging for new money.
