Security boosted at Litchfield Middle School after Facebook threat

By admin Published: February 29, 2012

This just in from an Akron Public Schools news release:

“Akron Public Schools added extra security at Litchfield Middle School Wednesday, February 29, in response to concerns about a reported threat on Facebook. The district stationed two additional officers at Litchfield to further reassure our students of their safety.

“According to a group of Litchfield students, someone claiming to be a student at Firestone posted an alarming Facebook message. The message poster reportedly threatened to hurt some middle school girls in retaliation.

“The poster’s Facebook name does not match any actual Firestone student.

“The district’s legal counsel and security office are attempting to identify exactly what was posted and by whom. We are conducting a thorough investigation and will take action according to Board policy and procedures.

“We’ve asked parents to remind their children to report any potentially harmful rumors or comments to an adult.

“Our staff has been trained to recognize potential problems. We also conduct drills, train in de-escalation skills, and plan for evacuations in case of emergencies so students and staff are prepared for various situations.”
