Blaze - pizza chain partially owned by LeBron James - plans another NEO location

Blaze Fast Fire'd Pizza, partly owned by LeBron James, is gaining more traction in Northeast Ohio.

The city of Strongsville said earlier today on its Facebook page that the eatery -- which features food being made-to-order, ala Chlpotle, is coming to Strongsville.

Blaze -- among so called "fast casual" food joints --  revealed last year that it will open at 5125 Dressler Road NW in the Belden Village area of Jackson Township. This location will open in late March or early April, according to a report in the Canton Repository last month.

Polish club in Akron will celebrate Mardi Gras with, well, Polish eats

Some Polish folks in Akron will tell you Mardi Gras food is not all about shrimp and grits and gumbo and other Creole/Cajun eats.

The Polish American Citizens Club will host its annual Mardi Gras dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 26 at the club at 472 E. Glenwood Ave., at the corner of Dan Street in Akron.

Buehler's grocery employee bags national championship

Brady Long of Buehler's Fresh Foods, with headquarters in Wooster, defeated 22 other Best Bagger competitors from across the nation to claim a grand prize of $10,000 at the National Grocers Association (NGA) Best Bagger Champion in Las Vegas.

The association has organized the nationwide competition since 1987. Contestants are judged by speed of bagging, "proper bag-building technique," weight distribution in the bag, as well as style, attitude and appearance," Buehler's said in a news release.

The competition was held Monday during The NGA Show at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Buehler’s Fresh Foods has 13 supermarkets, including stores in  Wooster, Orrville, Wadsworth, Medina, Jackson Township, Green and Massillon.

Downtown Akron beer and bourbon joint set to open Friday on High Street

High St. Hop House, a new beer-and-bourbon-centric joint, is set to open Friday in downtown Akron.

The doors to the place  at 20 S. High St., between Rubber City Clothing and the 22 High Street Gallery, will open at 5 p.m., with the bar featuring 18 taps and more than 30 bourbons and whiskeys. Live music will begin at 7 p.m. Acts lined up include guitarist/vocalist Jack Emmerich the 20/20 Lenz Brass Band.

High St. Hop House, in the arts/cultural district downtown that includes the Akron Art Museum, is a small place with seating for about 30. But customers can spill into the Uncorked Wine Bar that is accessible through an inside door.

Operators of High St. Hop House are Will Murphy, 27, and Michael Troppe, 25. Troppe is the son of the owner of Uncorked, Jill Troppe, and Tony Troppe, known for his redevelopment of historic downtown properties.

Akron's Merriman Valley to get Cajun/Creole restaurant, da Bayou

Akron’s Merriman Valley is getting another new eatery, and this one is a Cajun and Creole restaurant.

Called da Bayou, the new place is set to open in late February or early March in the space that previously housed Max McQ’s bar and restaurant, which closed abruptly in June.

Da Bayou owners are husband-and-wife Tony and Michelle Banks of the Akron area.

Bistro at Gervasi Vineyard in Canton makes Open Table list of country's most romantic restaurants

The Bistro at Gervasi Vineyard in Canton is among the country’s 100 most romantic restaurants, according to a survey compiled by online reservation site Open Table.

Gervasi is one of eight Ohio eateries to make the list. Two other Northeast Ohio restaurants were among the top 100: Chez Francois in Vermilion; Don’s Pomeroy House in Strongsville and Pier W in Cleveland.

Concerning Gervasi, if you want to score a table for Valentine’s Day, you
won’t be able to do it via Open Table. This afternoon. there were no reservations available for that night on the site.

Akron food entrepreneur will appear on ABC's Shark Tank Feb. 10; will pitch his Peaceful Fruits

Evan Delahanty, the Akron area founder of Peaceful Fruits fruit strips, will pitch his venture on the hit ABC show Shark Tank on Feb. 10 in an effort to score investment bucks from the panel of well-heeled, often snarky, entrepreneurs.

Delahanty, a former Peace Corps worker in South America, uses acai berries harvested in the Amazon region in Brazil, in the snacks.

Workers at the new Hattie’s Food Hub in West Akron make the strips and workers at Blick Center in Fairlawn package them. Hattie’s Food Hub is among the businesses that serve as work-training programs for the nonprofit Hattie Larlham, which provides services to people with disabilities. The nonprofit Blick Center (formerly Blick Clinic) aso serves people with disabilities.
