I am in mourning.

The annual Spring Bake Sale at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron — a local rite of spring — is not happening this year.

The reason? “Major [ongoing] renovations of the church, including a brand new kitchen have prevented it,” Kim Vernis, who heads up the annual bake sale, told me.

Sipping on Sundays. That’s what the High & Low Winery on state Route 18 in  Sharon Township offers now that it is open Sundays.

The winery, which opened in 2015,  is now open seven days a week year round. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Matt Snyder, who owns the business with his wife, Kate, told me this week.

Food is available throughout the day, and Sunday activities for patrons are being scheduled, including board games and card games on colder Sundays. Balloon tosses — outside, of course — are being planned for warmer weather. A listing of events is at www.searchhighandlow.com.

A favorite West Akron haunt, Rockne’s, is turning 30 — a remarkable feat for a locally owned restaurant — and a favorite place to grab an ice cream cone, Pav’s Creamery, is expanding again, this time to North Canton.

First the scoop on Rockne’s birthday. After all, it has survived three decades at 7 Merriman Road in Akron, and is continuing without its longtime owner and patriarch, Chris Hamad, who died in 2016.

Akron-Canton area Panera Bread locations offering delivery service

By Katie Byard Published: March 1, 2017

Delivery service is being launched at Panera Bread locations in the Cleveland, Akron and Canton markets.

Covelli Enterprises, the Warren-based franchise of Panera Bread said Wednesday it is rolling out “small order” delivery service, and the initiative will create more than 200 delivery jobs in the  region.

Covelli, the largest franchisee of Panera Bread, anticipates having delivery available at locations throughout the Cleveland-Akron-Canton area by the end of April. Not all stores will have delivery. For example, if there are two stores near each other, both won’t have delivery, a spokeswoman said.

Area Paneras now offering delivery are in Medina Township (4065 Pearl  Road); Fairlawn (2855 W Market St.); Akron  (790 Arlington Ridge; Brunswick, (1405 Parschen Blvd.); and Stow, (1059 Graham Road).
