Ohio Senators have deleted a provision of the proposed state budget that would have encouraged collaboration by local governments.
The $50 million fund allowed grants of up to $250,000 to finance combinations such as joint dispatch centers and consolidated fire districts.
"I was disappointed that at least initially that fund was deleted on the enate side," state Rep. Lynn Slaby, R-Akron, said. "I supported the concept....There might be an opportunity to get it back in but I'm not sure whether it would or would not get back in."
A conference committee is reconciling differences between the House and Senate versions. State law requires the budget to be passed by the end of June.
