It being the holiday season, more or less, and me being obsessed both with Christmas music and "Love Actually," I was playing the soundtrack in my car this morning. When I got to "Jump," I couldn't help but smile at the memory of Hugh Grant's dancing in the movie. So here's the clip, with some thoughts and a question after ...
Grant made me think about other goofy dance numbers in movies. The big three, for me, are "Love Actually," the Jon Cryer-"Try a Little Tenderness" sequence in "Pretty in Pink" (which I've posted here before, so I'll spare you another look -- unless you want to go over to YouTube to see it) and, of course, Tom Cruise in "Risky Business," below.
Of course, "RB" has become such a touchstone -- 25 years after its original release -- that it still inspires things like the Guitar Hero ad with Kobe Bryant, A-Rod, Michael Phelps and Tony Hawk. Below:
And all this has me thinking about other oddball dance numbers. A co-worker mentioned "The Breakfast Club's" dance, on view here:
You may also want to check out a nifty YouTube video mashing the "BC" film with the song "Footloose." Works very well. Here:
That all being said, I am open to suggestions for other dance sequences of inspired goofiness. Will post clips if I can find them.
