I didn't have the energy to do a dance-by-dance recap of tonight's "DWTS" but I can sum up my overall reaction very simply: Gilles Marini. Gilles Marini. Not only a good-looking guy who almost certainly drew gasps when he went shirtless, but an amazing dancer. The only thing that kept him from a perfect 30 tonight was Len getting fuddy-duddy about the hectic nature of the dance. I went back and looked at it a second time and can see Len's point to some degree -- Gilles and Cheryl Burke were really fast, squeezing multiple steps in single musical notes, it seemed -- but on first look it had been dazzling. This guy is going to be tough to beat, and right now I can't think of a reason why I would want him to be beaten.
Other dancers: Shawn Johnson remains quite capable and I can see a final three of Gilles, her and Lil' Kim, who also remains a solid dancer and has a nice charm about her. David Alan Grier tries mightily and does many things well, but I think he's in a box because the judges are not going to take him seriously no matter how he tries. Melissa Rycroft had an off night with the judges, and I am hoping that maybe she has gotten all the mileage she's going to get from the poor-Bachelorette buzz and is now going to have to deliver more on the dance floor. She was good tonight, but I would have put Gilles, Shawn and Lil' Kim all ahead of her. Ty Murray looks terrified on the floor. I have a hard time remembering Chuck Wicks at all. Lawrence Taylor couldn't put together a solid routine. Steve-O is endearing and gave a nice performance tonight, but he's not all that good a dancer. But on charm I might keep him one more week and send LT home.
