MLB Network looks back at Canton's Thurman Munson during "MLB Tonight" on Monday. The announcement:
MLB Network will air on Monday, August 3 a special feature about former New York Yankees captain Thurman Munson, following the 30th anniversary of his death. Munson, who spent his entire career with the Yankees, died at age 32 in an airplane accident on August 2, 1979 in Canton, Ohio during his ninth Major League season. Munson biographer Marty Appel, author of the recently released Munson: The Life and Death of a Yankee Captain, gives an in-depth interview during the segment, telling first-person accounts of the accident that killed Munson and the aftermath that surrounded the Yankees in the days following his death.
The piece features interviews with Munson’s widow, Diana, and former Yankees teammates Goose Gossage, Lou Piniella, Gene Michael, Graig Nettles and the late Bobby Murcer. Included throughout are several clips of archival footage of the accident’s aftermath, breaking news from that day and the entire Yankees team attending Munson’s funeral.
“Thurman Munson’s death marked a very emotional time in baseball and 30 years later, that feeling still resonates,” said Tony Petitti, President and Chief Executive Officer of MLB Network. “Munson’s life and career continue to have a tremendous impact on the game and we feel a responsibility to fans to spotlight his legacy.”
The piece will first air between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. ET and re-air throughout the night on MLB Tonight and Quick Pitch.
Amy Poehler will return to the "Saturday Night Live" set -- on Thursdays. That announcement:
NBC announced that two-time Emmy Award nominee Amy Poehler - star of NBC's returning comedy "Parks and Recreation" - will guest-star on the first two editions of the new fall series "Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday" for its premiere on Thursday, September 17 (8-8:30 p.m. ET) as well as on Thursday, September 24 (8-8:30 p.m. ET).
Poehler - who earlier this month scored her second consecutive Emmy nomination for her performance on "Saturday Night Live" - will reunite with "Saturday Night Live" star Seth Meyers behind the anchor desk that they shared on "SNL." The second-season debut of Poehler's "Parks and Recreation" also will follow that night from 8:30-9 p.m. (ET).
NBC will feature six new episodes of "Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday" skewering today's top stories in live half-hour primetime shows, anchored by the show's signature "Weekend Update" - and the first three will air to start the new fall season. Multiple Emmy winner Lorne Michaels ("Saturday Night Live") is the executive producer.
I'm including this next item because it made so many people in my office laugh (and it is much more tasteful than the other thing that had them laughing):
