Grinch News

By RD Heldenfels Published: September 12, 2006

The Boris Karloff version of ''How the Grinch Stole Christmas'' -- vastly superior to the Jim Carrey version is getting new DVD treatment. But I'd like to see more honor paid to Zero Mostel's reading of the Christmas classic. I have it on LP but don't know of a CD re-release. Anyway, here's the DVD news:

Welcome, Christmas, bring your cheer.  A deluxe edition of How the Grinch Stole Christmas is here!  Warner Home Video (WHV) will release this all-new, must-have fully re-mastered deluxe edition of Dr. Seuss’ Christmas classic on DVD November 21, 2006, just in time to celebrate the Grinch’s 50th birthday in 2007.  The deluxe edition DVD is priced at $19.98 SRP. ...

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Deluxe Edition is magnificently narrated by Boris Karloff (Frankenstein, The Mummy) and directed by animation genius and cartoon legend Chuck Jones (Looney Tunes, What's Opera, Doc?).  The Deluxe Edition DVD is newly re-mastered to a splendor never before seen on TV or DVD and features brand new collectable packaging, all new extra content and Horton Hears A Who.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! was originally adapted to television as an animated TV special and was highly praised by audiences and film animation fans alike.  It has been re-broadcast numerous times since its debut, with annual airings continuing to the present day.  The original book was first published in 1957 and was considered among one of Dr. Seuss’ finest works for children.
