Mixed Notes

By Rich Heldenfels Published: May 10, 2012

Lots of stuff in today's Beacon Journal and on Ohio.com including:

A look at the origins of "Dark Shadows.":

A review of "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."

A review of "The Perfect Family."

Today's mailbag.

Also, from earlier, a look at USA Network's "Common Law," premiering Friday.

Some brief viewing notes: If Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet do not sail through tonight's results on "American Idol," then the voting audience was wearing earplugs through their performances.

"Modern Family" offered another little gem last night; it takes real skill to turn Disney product placement into something endearing, especially when you do it by way of an animatronic Abraham Lincoln.

I am still wondering how long "Don't Trust the B---" can sustain its basic concept. But for now it is doing it in very funny, if edgy fashion. Makes my plums hurt just to think about it.

I have also seen Sunday's "Mad Men" finally, but that deserves a longer post.
