I spent part of this morning in pursuit of LeBron James, who was expected to shoot a commercial at his alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. You can read the result of my efforts here. Then today's email included a note about an unexpected tribute to the King in music. Yes, "Polka Time Again" offered songs tied to LeBron's return ("Homecoming Polka," for instance. “Polka Time Again” is one of the area’s most popular public access programs. It is produced through the facilities of WCTV (Wadsworth Community Television) and broadcast on WCTV Channel 15, as well as Cable 9 in Macedonia, Hudson Community Television, Brunswick Area Television, Austintown Community Television, Clear Picture in Wooster, and on the Perry and Mentor public access channels. Each program features a full hour of polka music, interviews and polka news of interest to polka fans. Hosts Gene Kovack and Joe Gabrosek keep their audience happy with jokes, news about local and national polka stars, and schedules of all the meeting places for polka dancing and jam sessions.
Over 1000 episodes of the program have been produced since its premierein 1994. Hosts Kovack and Gabrosek have been inducted into the National Cleveland Style Polka Hall of Fame as Achievement Award winners for Support and Promotion of the Polka Music Genre, as well as inductees to the 2013 Polka Hall of Fame Trustees Roll.
