Notes on This & That

By admin Published: August 17, 2011

Stuff from the mail and other sources:

Much in the news about "Jersey Shore" of late. Abercrombie & Fitch has asked The Situation in particular and the cast as a whole not to wear its brand. And Vinny was interviewed for Parade.com and here are some highlights provided by the site:

What's the biggest misconceptions about the cast?
“That all we are is what you see on TV, because that’s really just 2% of our lives. About 800 hours of footage makes an hour of the show. During that hour you just see the craziness when we go to the clubs and stuff. People think that’s how we are 24 hours a day, but obviously the other 799 hours is not us fighting and having sex, it’s just us being regular people. We all have businesses, we all have real jobs, and a couple of us went to school.”

On his abandoned law school plans...
“I went to college and graduated with Political Science and I also took my LSATs. The day I took my LSATs, the show premiered, and obviously it took off and I kind of steered away from law school. I always like learning and keeping my mind active, so I think once things settle down with this and I do have free time, I would like to go back to school to get my doctorate or law degree just to have it, not necessarily because I want to be a lawyer, because I really don’t.”

On the castmate with the worst style...
“Probably Situation. Sometimes he does stuff with his hair that I don’t even know what it is. He definitely needs some help.”

As for the Abercrombie publicity ploy, here's a quote from the announcement:

"We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino's association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans. We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael 'The Situation' Sorrentino and the producers of MTV's The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response."

Fox has made official what has been long expected: Steven, Jennifer and Randy will all be back as judges on "American Idol" in '12, and The Seacrest will continue as host. The next season begins on Jan. 22, following Fox's telecast of the NFC Championship Game.

The ubiquitous Lady Gaga has some doings planned with MTV. The official word: Multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning and confirmed “2011 MTV Video Music Awards” performer Lady Gaga will appear LIVE on Thursday, August 18th at 7:49pm ET to make a #VMA announcement and tease her new VMA promo simultaneously on MTV and Logo during “MTV First: Lady Gaga.” In addition, she will introduce her new music video “Yoü and I” for its television premiere and respond to feedback from fans with her and online. Immediately following the on-air portion, Gaga will stay on for an exclusive LIVE interview and interactive Q&A session with MTV News’ Sway Calloway on MTV.com. Fans can submit questions beginning today through MTV.com and Twitter (using @MTVNews / hash-tag #MTVGAGA).

Speaking of Gaga, Tony Bennett will be on HSN on Sept. 10 to plug his new "Duets II" album, which includes him with the Lady. The official word on that:

Other powerhouse musicians joining Bennett on the CD include Mariah Carey, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow, Aretha Franklin, Josh Groban, Norah Jones, Lady Gaga, k.d.lang, Willie Nelson, Queen Latifah, Alejandro Sanz and Amy Winehouse.

"American Chopper" is back on Aug. 29. The word: AMERICAN CHOPPER: Senior Vs. Junior, will be returning with BRAND NEW EPISODES on Monday, August 29th at 9 PM ET/PT.

What once was a family business is now a family feud. TNT has a new Eric McCormack series in the works. Says the network: TNT began production this week on its intriguing new original series Perception, starring Emmy® and Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Eric McCormack (Will & Grace, Who Is Clark Rockefeller?). The series about an eccentric neuroscientist who helps solve complex criminal cases also stars Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That), Arjay Smith (The Day After Tomorrow) and Kelly Rowan (The O.C.). TNT has ordered 10 episodes of Perception, which will join the network’s lineup in summer 2012.

In Perception, McCormack plays Dr. Daniel Pierce, a neuroscientist and professor recruited to help the federal government crack difficult cases. His intimate knowledge of human behavior and masterful understanding of the mind give him an extraordinary ability to read people, but his eccentric view of the world and less-than-stellar social skills can often interfere with his work.
