PlayhouseSquare 2009-10 Broadway Series Announced

Includes "Young Frankenstein," "Chicago," the Taylor Hicks "Grease," "In the Heights," "August: Osage County," "Xanadu," "Dirty Dancing." So, three based on movies and two more that have been made into movies that are better-known than the Broadway versions. Full announcement after the jump.

PlayhouseSquare announces today its entire seven-show line-up for the 2009 – 2010 KeyBank Broadway Series at PlayhouseSquare. The series entertains hundreds of thousands each season and is largely responsible for making the not-for-profit PlayhouseSquare a thriving destination and economic engine for downtown Cleveland.

News of one of the most significant annual performing arts announcements in Northeast Ohio was delivered by PlayhouseSquare’s Vice President of Theatricals, Gina Vernaci. “The need to find an entertaining escape speaks directly to the enduring value of a live theatrical event. And the experience of Broadway at PlayhouseSquare fulfills that desire,” stated Vernaci. “We are enthused to offer an impressive slate of shows for the 2009-2010 KeyBank Broadway Series. It is a broad mix of beloved classics along with fresh, new works that offer electrifying dancing, pulsating music and captivating drama that combine to present a real feast for our audiences.”

"Heaven on Wheels" says The New York Times. Taking audiences back to 1980 California, this hilarious new musical follows the beautiful Kira, who travels to earth to inspire a struggling young artist named Sonny, as she helps this aspiring painter to find his voice, discover true love and build the world’s first roller disco (not necessarily in that order).
