FX has ordered a drama pilot from Ryan Murphy, the Golden Globe winning creator of nip/tuck, it was announced today by John Landgraf, President and General Manager of FX Networks. The pilot for the Untitled Ryan Murphy Project, which was written by Murphy and nip/tuck supervising producer Brad Falchuk, is scheduled to begin production later this year and will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Murphy will direct the pilot.
The hour-long drama centers on the life of a husband, father and doctor who realizes that he is transgender and begins the long process of transitioning from male to female. No casting decisions have been made.
''This is an ambitious project, and one that Ryan has created with truth and respect,'' said Landgraf. ''We’re extremely happy to work with Ryan on his second drama pilot for the network, which we have been developing with him while he remains the showrunner for nip/tuck, FX’s highest-rated original series. The script he and Brad delivered is unique, compelling and complex storytelling.''
This is the first pilot greenlit by FX since it ordered the legal thriller Damages, starring Glenn Close and Ted Danson. Launched in July, the series has attracted the largest cumulative audience of any series premiering in 2007 on cable television. (end announcement excerpt)
As "nip/tuck" fans know, this is not the first time Murphy has dealt with a transgender character.
