Today's official announcement is after the jump. But I'm wondering about Barbara Walters' statement that she is looking forward to "a wonderful" year with Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg. Is "The View" now accepting that it will change hosts the way "Law & Order" changes casts?
Barbara Walters, co-executive producer and co-host of ABC's "The View,"
officially announced today, live on "The View," that Sherri Shepherd has been
named a co-host of her Emmy Award-winning morning talk and entertainment show.
Today marked Ms. Shepherd's first day as a permanent co-host, ending months of
speculation on who would occupy daytime television’s most coveted seat. Since
the show's inception, Ms. Shepherd has been a celebrity guest co-host 23 times.
"I am so happy that Sherri Shepherd is joining our panel. She is
irreverent, charming, funny and loveable. I look forward to a wonderful year on
'The View' with both Whoopi and Sherri," said Ms. Walters.
"Sherri’s relatability, comedic timing and electrifying personality have
really resonated with our viewers, making her the perfect co-host choice. It
will be nice having five women of different backgrounds providing our audience
with interesting, insightful and entertaining conversations," said Brian Frons,
president, Daytime Disney-ABC Television Group.
"I am thrilled and honored to be working with a trailblazer, an Oscar
winner, a fellow comedienne and a Survivor," said Ms. Shepherd.
Sherri Shepherd's magnetic personality and hilarious sense of humor never
fail to delight audiences. She has been featured in the motion pictures "Who's
Your Caddy," "Beauty Shop," "Cellular" and "Guess Who," and has made numerous
television appearances, including her four-year starring role on ABC’s "Less
than Perfect." An accomplished stand-up comic, she has released both a DVD and a
CD entitled "No Refund, No Exchange." The Chicago native is mother to two-year-
old Jeffrey, Jr.
