Bad news for "Bleep My Dad Says," it appears. But first, "Survivor: Redemption Island."

The official word: SURVIVOR: REDEMPTION ISLAND, the 22nd edition of television's longest-running reality competition series, premieres Wednesday, Feb.16 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The spring edition of SURVIVOR will feature a new twist when, for the first time, castaways who have been eliminated from the game will have an opportunity to seek redemption and return for a chance to win the million dollar prize. Each week at Tribal Council when a castaway is voted off, they will be sent to an isolated island called "Redemption Island," where they will live alone in exile. To stay on Redemption Island, they will need to compete in a duel against the next person eliminated (and then against each subsequent person voted off), with the loser being sent home. The winner of each duel earns the right to continue fighting for an opportunity to return to the game and the chance to compete for the title of Sole Survivor.

Monday Notebook

By admin Published: December 13, 2010

Quite a weekend. Stayed up way too late Friday to watch the Akron-Michigan soccer game, then watched the final, and the Akron win, yesterday afternoon/evening. It was the night of the Christmas-music show at our church, where the bride plays in the bell choir, so early in the second half she had to go to that while I was watching the rest of the game to provide news updates. Also DVR'ed it, so when we got home she could see what had transipired. Incredible, tension-filled final minute, but the win nonetheless. We saw every home game Akron played this year and at times wondered if they were as good as they were supposed to be, but this win proved that yes, they are a terrific team.

As much as we like watching them in person, the telecast -- pro-Louisville commentator notwithstanding -- was even more demonstrative of Akron's abilities: when you could see the whole field from above, their passing artistry and method, their placement of players, were far more visible -- and impressive. Sunday's game also showed how aggressive they can be going after the ball. But I am rambling. Probably to keep thinking about the snow outside. Now I have to focus on getting the T-shirt.

"Doctor Who Christmas Carol" on BBCA, DVD, Blu-ray

By admin Published: December 9, 2010

The official word: The BBC continues the momentum of a record year for Doctor Who on February 15 with the DVD and Blu-ray release of Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol. The Christmas special premieres on BBC AMERICA on Christmas Day at 9:00 pm ET, which marks the first time Doctor Who will debut in the U.S. and UK on the same day. Matt Smith and Karen Gillan return as the Doctor and his companion alongside special guest stars Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The King's Speech) and opera diva Katherine Jenkins, for a Dickens-inspired odyssey.

Bonus content on the DVD and Blu-ray includes the behind-the-scenes feature Doctor Who Confidential and the live concert, Doctor Who at the Proms 2010, featuring stars Smith, Gillan and Arthur Darvill as hosts.

Doctor Who had a year for the ages in 2010 with a new lead writer and executive producer in Steven Moffat (Sherlock, Coupling), a new Doctor (Smith) and a new companion (Amy Pond, played by Gillan). This creative fusion yielded a remarkable reboot for the beloved drama series that buoyed it to unprecedented heights - record ratings on BBC AMERICA, scintillating reviews and most recently Smith's appearance on a Doctor Who special edition of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Steven Moffat commented on A Christmas Carol: "Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And ... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbors loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I'm fairly sure they did it ironically."

A Christmas Carol follows newlyweds Amy and Rory (Darvill) as they are trapped on a crashing space liner. The only way The Doctor can rescue them is to save the soul of a lonely old miser, Kazran Sardick (Gambon). But is Sardick, the richest man in Sardicktown, beyond redemption? And what is lurking in the fogs of Christmas Eve?

"Treme" S1 DVD/Blu-ray March 29

By admin Published: December 9, 2010

The official word: From the creators of the acclaimed HBO® series The Wire® comes Treme℠, a riveting drama set in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the greatest natural disaster in American history. Interweaving stories of musicians and other city residents who are trying to rebuild their lives, the series speaks to the enduring music and cultural traditions that make its citizens, and the city itself, so unique. Treme: The Complete First Season will be made available day and date on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download from HBO Home Entertainment®. Streeting on March 29, 2011, just in time for the second season premiere, the four-disc DVD and Blu-ray Disc sets include all 10 episodes, along with a wealth of exciting bonus materials for the suggested retail price of $59.99 and $79.98 respectively.

Treme is one of New Orleans’ oldest neighborhoods, an important center of African-American and Creole culture, especially music. The series highlights the role this unique district has in the Crescent City and tells the interconnected personal stories of the musicians, teachers, restaurateurs, radio deejays and community leaders who endure and thrive in the wake of the disaster. Treme: The Complete First Season begins three months after Katrina, more than half the population of New Orleans is elsewhere and much of the city is wrecked, muddied and caked in mold, while other neighborhoods – in “the sliver by the river,” as locals call it – remain viable. But the tourists have yet to return, the money that follows them is scarce, and residents can take solace only in the fact that the city’s high levels of crime have migrated to Houston and Baton Rouge. And for those returning, housing is hard to come by, with many people waiting on insurance checks that may never arrive.

Don Meredith, R.I.P.

By admin Published: December 6, 2010

Every now and then I would wonder what Don Meredith was up to. Would he return to the public eye? There was a time, after all, when he verged on ubiquity, thanks not only to "Monday Night Football," but to acting work which included some decent turns with Tony LoBianco on "Police Story." But after he left "MNF," he seemed to take himself out of the public eye as deliberately -- and possibly even more successfully -- than Johnny Carson had after his retirement. And apparently that was fine with him.

The Dallas Morning News has a detailed account of Meredith's life. It includes his complicated relationship with coach Tom Landry while Meredith was quarterbacking the Dallas Cowboys (Meredith was unquestionably the inspiration for Mac Davis's QB character in the football classic "North Dallas Forty"), along with some notes about his post-"MNF" years.
