The Christmas/Rock Hall Intersection

Well, the Rock Hall has announced this year's inductees: Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, Darlene Love, Tom Waits, Leon Russell, Specialty Records boss Art Rupe and Elektra Records maestro Jac Holzman. Of course, this being the holiday season, I immediately began thinking of holiday songs tied to these folks. A couple of samples:

I posted a studio take of Wait's "Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis" on Facebook. But this live cut is pretty nice:

Darlene Love, one of the great and undeniable singers in pop, is legendary in part because of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," below. Covered by others, played to death this time of year -- but she still transcends cliche.

Alice Cooper did a Christmas song? Apparently.

How about Dr. John with another fave here, Leon Redbone:

Somewhere I have this old 45 of Leon Russell. Fine song ...

Jac Holzman's rock hall bio notes his work with Jean Ritchie, a wonderful folk singer. So here's a wintry song from her:

Can't ignore Neil Diamond.
