I KNOW that "Quantum of Solace" doesn't open until November. But the trailer, above, already has me thrillin'.
Was cruising YouTube this morning, and drifted into tons of acappella performances, including quite a few "Don't Stop Believin'," which aside from its pop immortality (Journey, "Sopranos," blah blah blah) was used -- badly -- on "Nashville Star" last night. But I'm not putting a "Don't Stop" here. Rather, I'm offering a sample of the UC Men's Octet.
The octet is also well represented on YouTube. By the way, the above reminds me of Big Daddy, a semi-parody group whose concept was guys whose musical education was from the '50s and '60s, but who were performing tunes from the '80s and '90s. Some of the juxtapositions were just hilarious -- a "Like a Virgin" done like a Frankie Avalon song comes to mind -- but they could also be quite lovely, including with an acappella "Eye of the Tiger."
I expect to be back later with some TV notes.
