I spent about eight hours in Hollywood yesterday afternoon and evening, hanging around the taping of the ESPYS. It had its challenges, among them the 90-degree heat for the late-afternoon arrivals on the red carpet. Also good times, since the press room afforded at least brief access to the likes of Shaun Alexander, Dwyane Wade and ESPYS host Lance Armstrong.
I had expected to post during the ceremony but had transmission problems from the press room. (I also just discovered that a post I wrote yesterday had never made it from my file to the blog, so I have put it in view.) When I returned to the hotel, the air conditioning had malfunctioned in my room for the third straight day; at a time when sensible people are asleep, I was hastily stuffing clothes and papers into my suitcases and any other bag I had handy, so I could move to a different room. That's taken care of now, and I expect to file some ESPYS notes later today, as well as bits from today's events (the guys from ''South Park'' and Mr. T, among other things).
