Why Would Anyone Object To This Ad?

In case you missed it: News reports like this one say that the ad above prompted racist comments from people who object to the presentation of a biracial marriage and child.  (While Cheerios shut down the comments on the YouTube ad, you can get a taste of the extremism flying out there in the comments on this AdWeek piece about the ad.)

We have a biracial president. The biggest movie in America right now, "Fast & Furious 6," includes not only an ethnically diverse cast but a lead actor, Vin Diesel, who is multiracial. Sadly, many people have not come all that far from the days when this clip featuring Petula Clark and Harry Belafonte in a 1968 Clark special ...

.. was thought controversial by an executive with the show's sponsor -- because Clark, a white woman, touches the African-American Belafonte's arm. That's where we were about 45 years ago. But where are we now?
