Wilma Smith Through the Years

By Rich Heldenfels Published: May 21, 2013

With Wilma Smith winding up her local broadcast career on Wednesday, I thought it would be fun to look at clips of her work over the years. YouTube has thousands of pieces, but here's a sample.

Smith (and other WEW personalities) looking back at their early years. (The first minute and a half involve Wilma, the rest Nev Chandler, Ted Henry and Don Webster.) You can also check out a Bill Sheil interview with Smtih about her youth here.

The first part of WEWS's 35th-anniversary special, with Smith and Fred Griffith hosting. The whole special is available in pieces on YouTube.

Here's a promo for Smith and Ted Henry as 11 p.m. co-anchors. (YouTube identifies it as a '70s promo, but it may be from the '80s.) "Wilma and Ted before you go to bed."

From the WEWS newscast in 1989 (following the execution of Ted Bundy):

A news brief from the '90s:

With the 75th anniversary of Superman on us, here's Wilma talking to "Adventures of Superman" co-stars Jack Larson and Noel Neill when the character turned 50.

Here's a clip from 2000, Smith with Mark Spain:

Wilma discusses her retirement decision.
