UPDATE: I have a story online today with some more explanation of why WNIR is, among other things, using Chizek's next to last broadcast instead of the final one.
The official word: Sunday June 16th, 2013 marks the first anniversary of the death of WNIR Radio personality, Howie Chizek, who passed away while en route to Disney World with a group of teens from his New Adventures mentoring program.
WNIR will mark the anniversary of Howie’s death beginning on Sunday June 16th during the Bob Earley Show from 7-10 p.m. when the station will play a 66 minute recording of Howie’s June 14th, 2012, broadcast, two days prior to his death. The broadcast will start at approximately 7:10 p.m. and will be played in its entirety without commercial interruption (excluding those that are part of the broadcast from that date).Following the broadcast replay Bob Earley will accept calls from listeners who wish to
share their memories of Howie.
WNIR will officially commemorate the first anniversary of Howie’s death on Monday June 17th when the station will observe a moment of silence at approximately 12:20 p.m., following the Noon news block and just before John “Couchburner” Denning resumes his talk show. Throughout the day WNIR will feature clips of Howie’s June 14th broadcast and accept calls from listeners who wish to share their memories of Howie.
