Kent State basketball names DeAndre Haynes assistant coach
Kent State officially announced the hiring of former point guard and Mid-American Conference Player of the Year DeAndre Haynes as an assistant coach in a press release on Monday.
Haynes ('06) is Kent State's all-time leader in assists (625), steals (229) and minutes played. He spent the last six years with FIBA Europe, including stops in Belgium, Hungary, Germany and then Finland.

Steinbrecher thinks MAC would benefit from new BCS playoff system
Here's Mid-American Conference commissioner Jon Steinbrecher's take on how the league fits into the new BCS playoff format that will take effect in two years and features a four-team, three-game championship.
“We know a few things, but I would suggest to you there’s still an awful lot of work yet to be done,” he said. “We’re not finished with that process…What has not been laid out is the access, how do you put yourself into those access bowls.”

Kent State named Tommy Cook director of football operations Monday.
Cook joins the Golden Flashes after serving two seasons at Kentucky as a graduate assistant and assistant director of football operations.

KSU DT Roosevelt Nix named to watch lists
Junior DT Roosevelt Nix was named to a pair of prestigious national watch lists for the 2012 season.
Nix is one of 84 players on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, honoring the nation’s top defensive player. He is also one of 70 players on the Outland Trophy Watch List, honoring the nation’s top interior lineman.Both awards are presented by the Football Writers Association of America.

2012 MAC Football Media Day to be televised live on ESPN3
The Mid-American Conference's 2012 Football Media Day on July 24 at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. will be televised live on ESPN3, the network's online service that's also available on tablets and smartphones.
All 13 head coaches will speak along with selected players from each school. Defensive lineman Roosevelt Nix and offensive tackle Brian Winters will attend for Kent State, while Akron hasn't yet named which players will make the trip to Detroit with new head coach Terry Bowden.

Nov KSU-Temple game to be televised as part of ESPN Tip-Off Marathon
Kent State’s Nov. 13th game against Temple has been selected for ESPN’s Ffth Annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, as the Golden Flashes will host the Owls at noon in a game nationally televised from the M.A.C. Center on the ESPN family of networks.

Former KSU forward Mike Scott getting a chance with NBA Summer League
Former Kent State forward Mike Scott was one of 14 players selected to compete for the Wizards' Las Vegas NBA summer league team.
Scott averaged 13.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a senior for the Golden Flashes in 2007-08, and has since bounced around with professional basketball teams in Turkey, Hungary, Germany and Serbia. He averaged 17.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in the Adriatic League.
