Heasley breaks school track record
Kent State sophomore Destin Heasley, a Massillon Washington graduate, won the men’s 600 meter race Saturday with a school-record time of 1:18.61 at the 2009 Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State University in State College, Pa. Heasley’s victory was the only one of day for the Flashes. Kent State finished second overall as a team.
KSU athlete named MAC Athlete of Week
Senior Levania Henderson was honored as the Mid-American Conference Indoor track and Field Women’s field Athlete of the Week last week. Henderson won the women’s weight throw and shot put at the Kent State Quad on January 30.

Softball's Reynolds breaks own record
Kent State junior softball pitcher Kylie Reynolds broke her own school record of strike outs in a game by fanning 18 hitters in a nine-inning no hitter Sunday in Deland Fl. Reynolds, who struck out 17 batters in a game twice during her freshman season, is not 3-0 on the season and struck out 47 batters. She is yet to give up a run in 26 innings pitched this season. Kent State (4-1) won the game on a Holly Finchum RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

KSU wrestlers rout Buffalo
The Kent State wrestling team won eight of 10 matches Saturday in a 31-7 rout of host Buffalo at Alumni Arena. Nic Bedelyon (125), Danny Mitcheff (133), Drew Lashaway (141), Ross Tice(157), Obie Simpson (165), Dustin Kilgore (184), Eric Chine (197) and Jermail Porter (285) all won their respective matches.

Usama Young wins NFL Super Ad
James Harrison wasn't the only former Kent State football player making a splash on Super Bowl Sunday. Former cornerback Usama Young, a defensive back for the New Orleans Saints, was making an impression too, albeit off the field.
Young's childhood story about selling snow cones at Washington Redskins games was voted as the NFL's Super Ad that debuted during the big game. While the rest of the commercials were less than Stellar, Young's was one of the better ones. Here is a nice feature story on the commercial.
