Kent State’s roller coaster 2013 season came to a halt early Sunday evening in Maryland, as the Golden Flashes fell to host Loyola 73-59 at Reitz Arena in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Post Season Tournament.

If I had a quarter for every time in the last few days someone’s asked me what the heck the CollegeInsider.com Post Season Tournament is, I might not need to work any longer.
But before I consider early retirement, I thought I’d share the details I unearthed before the 7 p.m. game Wednesday against host Kent State (20-13) and visiting Fairfield (19-15) from Connecticut in the postseason’s first-round action.

It was going to take a team effort for Kent State to knock off rival Akron, even with the host Zips missing suspended point guard Alex Abreu.

KSU tops Bowling Green to clinch No. 4 seed in MAC Tournament
Senior guards Randal Holt and Chris Evans led four players in double-figure scoring as the Golden Flashes outlasted visiting Bowling Green 69-61 Tuesday night at the M.A.C. Center.
Holt finished with a game-high 16 points and Evans was just three assists away from KSU's first ever triple double, finsihing with 12 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Junior forward Darren Goodson contributed 12 points in 17 minutes and sophomore point guard Kris Brewer chipped in 11 points that included three 3-pointers.

Newcomer Shawn Clark promoted to run game coordinator for Flashes
Per a KSU sports release: Head Coach Paul Haynes recently announced the promotion of Shawn Clark to run game coordinator. Clark joined the football staff in early January as the offensive line coach.
“Coach (Brian) Rock and I agreed that Coach Clark’s experience would really benefit us in the overall preparation of our run game,” Haynes said. “Coach Clark has a proven record of success with his offensive lines and his long-term vision for the offense has him prepared for this task.”

Flashes play three games at No. 4-ranked Louisville this weekend
Per a KSU news release: Kent State (1-7) will make the trip to No. 4 Louisville (7-1) for a three game series beginning on Friday (Mar. 1) at 4:00 pm EST. They play at 2:00 pm EST on Saturday (Mar. 2) and Sunday (Mar. 3).

MAC releases KSU 2013 football Schedule
Per a KSU news release - Kent State’s 2013 football schedule was announced Friday by the Mid-American Conference. The 12-game regular season includes five home contests at Dix Stadium, beginning with a Thursday night opener against Liberty (Aug. 29). The rest of the home slate features Bowling Green (Sept. 7), a MAC Championship game rematch with Northern Illinois (Oct. 5), Buffalo (Oct. 26) and a Wednesday night matchup with Miami (Nov. 13).
The battle with the RedHawks is the first of back-to-back weeknight MAC East games to be televised on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Golden Flashes will close out the regular season with a nationally televised game at Ohio.
