Checking in from Italy

By admin Published: August 23, 2009

The Kent State men's basketball team's trip to Italy is well under way.

Senior sharp shooter Mike McKee checks in on the first couple days in Italy.  The team spent time touring the Colosseum and going to Vatican City.  A photo gallery can also be found at the Kent State Athletics website.

Junior guard Rodriquez Sherman also checks in with his postcard to the Record Courier.  Sherman didn't play all of last season as he redshirted the season to help recover from a knee injury.  After playing on the wing his first few years in the program, Sherman is expected to slide over and play point guard this season.

Tomorrow the team plays their first game against Basket Scauri.  They are located near Rome and are expected to be the easiest opponent the Flashes will play after going 17-9 in Italy's B-2 league.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: On Friday evening the Kent State women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 win over Eastern Kentucky in Kent.  Kelly Heaton came off the bench to score the game tying goal in the 74th minute then assist in the winning goal at the 77th minute.  KSU will next be in action Friday when they host Cleveland State.
