Gold Team shuts out Blue Team in KSU spring game

The Flashes showed they could have a pair of difference makers when the football season rolls around this fall, as demonstarted by the play of junior running back Dri Archer and junior quarterback David Fisher, who teamed to lead the Gold Team to a 21-0 victory Saturday at Dix Stadium.

Archer, who has been clocked at 4.21 and 4.34 in ther 40-yard dash, split a pair of defenders and burned the Blue Team defense for am effortless 66-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

After the game, KSU head coach Darrell Hazell (a former Ohio State assistant) compared Archer to former Buckeye speedster Ted Gin Jr.

“(Archer) reminded me of Teddy when he hit that one corner,” Hazell said. “There’s a narrow seam and he hits it, then there’s no more angles for the defense.”

Archer, who also lines up at receiver and returns kicks and punts, finished the game with 107 all-purpose yards.

Meanwhile, Gold Team quarterback Fisher showed poise in recovering from a slow start, going on to finish 7-of-11 with 103 yards and two touchdowns in his bid to unseat imcumbent Spencer Keith (10-of-26 with no touchdowns and two interceptions).

After Friday's practice, Hazell said the two quarterbacks were even. After the game, he reminded the media there's still a quarterback battle heading into the summer.
